An Old Photo Competition Reveals The Memories and Histories of Kampung Peneleh
I want to submit several photographs that shown on the Old Photography Competition or Lomba Foto Lawas. We held this event during the Indonesian Independence anniversary last year. Kampung people used to commemorate the Independence day by organized many activities including competition. However, we thought that it is much more interesting if we seek the kampung history by tracing their images. Actually we are facing difficulties to write Kampung Peneleh history due to lack of written sources such as archives and personal diaries. Then we look for another source and we found that old photographs can be alternatives to know the history of this kampung. As a historian, I need to treat carefully the photographs as historical sources and their strengths and limits. We, nevertheless, still believe that they can illuminate things about the past and the memories of Kampung Peneleh. – Adrian Perkasa
